by Markus Wosgien (31.01.2008) In the 18th century, Mephisto stood for the devil. This Swiss band sees itself as the counterpart for the diabolic system that can be found in all places. They are cold, gloomy and electronic, they admire Nine Inch Nails, Pitchshifter and Filter, and they can instantly please with their innovative Industrial Rock. They want to create a new Utopia, dig into the chaos and call for the end of the system, of the society, the economy, body, spirit and soul. That may sound extremely negative and destructive but is musically well constructed. The 13 songs have a lively soul, convince by their steel rhythms and often surprising, melodic harmonies. The musical range is wide and reaches all extremes of heavy, electronic music. The result is a collection of such danceable songs, like the spherical, a bit Manson-like "Try to be like you" and the almost Pop-like "Anybody cares". After all, this is a very inspiring and high-quality Industrial album with class.
