    The System Has Failed

by Jürgen Tschamler (29.09.2006) The Frankfurt-based band, Courageous have always been seen as the German answer to Nevermore. Which basically may not be wrong, still such a categorisation is not always the most fortunate one. With their new album, they completely parted off the traditional influences (old school) and perform Thrash with modern ingredients. The new, fat produced album is intricate, with numerous time and rhythm-changes and incorporates sometimes very egocentric song passages. Still, progressive Thrash Metal is not the right definition either, but this is at least unique in the German metal landscape. That is shown beautifully in a song like "Praise thy name", bursting with innovations. A true Thrash killer is "Hollow creation". Chris Staubach's vocals will remain disputed, still he has the right tone for every mood-change. The shouting full of facets will appeal to all those who think that "normal" Thrash is too dull and rather look for high value Thrash with atypical song structures. Thus, you should know what to do!
