by Manuela Liefländer (April 2005) The word "Betzefer" comes from Hebrew and means as much as "school". In case of this quintet this can be seen literally. They began as a Metallica cover band. When they started writing their own material they played NuMetal. Which lasted one album and two eps. Now they play melodic thrash metal, mainly influenced by Sepultura. What a school. No less unusual is the fact that the guys come from Israel. A country that is not quite known for its music. No to mention a metal Mekka. With Betzefer, this should be changing. Because also if singer Avital Tamir with his vocals in Phil Anselmo-vein is not reinventing the wheel this album is still one of the best records of the year 2005! Energetic, heavy, always catchy and very thrilling. That's how hits are being written. Beside fat guitars you always get some stoner rock elements, too. More of that, please!
