Article description

For some long-time fans, the musicians - influenced by the moloch LA - went too far on their for the time being last album with guitar player Dino: Nu Metal sounds, less riff punches and even Raps and more clean vocals instead of growls. Looking back it is nevertheless a great album.

by Stefan Müller (04/01) In the ten years of their existence there has always been one remarkable thing: with each album that the Americans released they re-defined the sound of hard and modern music. The standard of "Obsolete", the 1998-release, is still valid today. So it's not surprising that "Digimortal" for the first time sets no new references but stagnates in a certain way. Still this ain't negative because the breilliant level of the predecessors could be kept. Changes for the most can be seen in the structures of the songs, because Dino and his fellow musicians confine themselves to the essential - a fact that also can be seen in the short running times of the songs. The rest is as known: stakkato-riffing, an unbelievable rhythms-section and the swearing vocals mixed with heavy shouts. No, Fear Factory 2001 won't disappoint a single fan.
