by Sonja Angerer (28.09.2007) With this concept album, David A. Line and Greta Csatlos took a true story as their guideline: in the year 1633, the priest Urbain Grandier was impeached in the little town, Loudon in Southwestern France. The prioress of the local Ursuline cloister accused him to have bewitched the nuns and inveigled them for public franticness. Grandier died on the pile one year later and it wasn't before another three years later that exorcists had settled back peace in the cloister. This line of historical events is the basis for Untoten's dramatic story of the deaf and dumb novice, Valentine, who becomes the major suspicious for a murder in the cloister still stamped by distrust and hysteria. The expensive production is split into two different versions: this Rock version is an opulent painting full of drama, epic Gothic Rock with impressive lyrics and a lot of atmosphere – some kind of musical radio play rather than a Musical. Impressive and fascinating.
