by Jürgen Tschamler (02/99) The name sounds trendy, the guy somehow looks trendy, too and just as trendy is the album cover. But I'm true since I listen to true metal and I don't like trendy stuff - but this guy makes me worry! As he raps'n'rocks as easy as that, throws in some phat riffs and puts up a couple of pretty heavy thesises in his lyrics. The music sounds fresh and honest and is put together of metal, rap, funk, prog, power, blues and samples. In the States the CD sells like free beer due to the large variety of styles and the street credibility. The music is cool and Kid Rock is thrilling in his own special way. The 14 tracks are entertaining, superbly phat produced and even after the xth listen-through they're not boring. Fans who tend into the direction Rage Against The Machine, Ice Cube, Bodycount, Dog Eat Dog and hardcore rap will find their next fave in Kid Rock. Actually, the booklet holds a pretty good statement in store: If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real, you'll feel it - Kid Rock. (JΓΌrgen Tschamler)
