Excellent Service

Despite of long lasting scene abstinence, Deströyer 666 belong with this album to the elite of the Black-/Thrash genre. Brutality in harmony with loads of old school elements dominate this album, which contains nine great hymns.

    A Sermon To The Dead

by Jürgen Tschamler (24.07.2009) Seven years ago, the Aussies released their last record. Well, some time has passed, but fortunately, nothing has changed much in the Deströyer 666 camp. In fact, "Defiance" is even a bit truer / more old school than "Cold steel....for an iron age". The mixture of Black, Death, and Thrash is extremely intensive - and the rough and dirty production adds an unequalled -at least in this genre- power to the songs. In spite of their brutality, the tracks are sort of catchy (don’t get me wrong: this is a compliment!). And there’s also some variety: of course, you’ll get the usual high speed attacks (check "I am not deceived"), but there’s also some concentrated, compact aggression in those mid-tempo steamrollers such as "Blood for blood", or "A stand defiant". The guitar barrage is hefty and powerful, and the overall clout of the tracks is impressive. Maybe Deströyer 666 took a very long break from the music scene - but in the meantime, no heir apparent was able to climb on their throne! Without doubt, "Defiance" is among the Black / Thrash Metal highlights of 2009.
