by Oliver Kube (22.02.2010) Album #6 by these Groove Metal combo starts with captivating "The scythe". As is usual for the Californians, the rough parts are interrupted time and again by melodious interludes. Front man and singer Dave Peters once again makes good use of his versatile voice, reminding me of Pantera's Phil Anselmo a lot - although many fans of Mudvayne's Chad Gray will also be attracted by it, I bet. They will never reinvent the wheel, though - but the trio, consisting of Peters, guitarist Mark Choiniere, and bass man Mark Mitchell, has definitely improved its compositions skills. Supported by studio drummer Jarrod Alexander (who already helped them out on the 2003 release "Haymaker"), they present us with a dozen classy powerful songs - and the atmospheric half-ballads à la Godsmack or Alice In Chains they have on their list are performed very competently.
