by Marcel Anders (18.07.2006) It all began as a fun project: Josh Homme, mastermind of the Queens Of The Stone Age, formed a thrashy garage rock band in which he doesn't have to stand in the spotlight. Instead, the tall guitarist took over the drums while Hughes was the grotesque frontman with his shrill falsetto vocals and some nerdy poses. A splendid joke that now delivers album No. 2. Without Homme who (because of his father's commitments) only produced the album, being replaced by ex-Hole drummer, Samantha Maloney. Still, that didn't change the style: the eagles still go for a dirty sound that resembles a mixture of ZZ-Top and the legendary Stooges, incorporating plenty of Stones riffs and Marc Bolan-elements and that always is most strikingly a parole when they go for musical extremes. Like in the Cramps-hommage, "Chase the devilβ€œ, the Stooges-rip off, "Eagles gothβ€œ or the country & western-interlude, "Bag O'Miraclesβ€œ. Cheesy, but cool …
