So, everybody’s eager to call these young Brits true Metal - but indeed, you won’t find any -core influences (apart from some choruses) in the first half of this album in spite of hefty grooves ("An architect of your demise") and edgy riffs. The clean voice in the subtle chorus of otherwise thrashy "As I bleed" is dominated by growling. Only on "Hatred justified" (which is the song before the last one), you can hear undisguised, beautiful clear singing. O.k., "Abandon hope" is influenced by Gothenburg gods At The Gates - but that’s no mistake seen from a Metal point of view... Still Swedish, but more Soilwork: "End of days", presumably the best song on this second album of these five blokes from Reading. "When embers ignite", a bulky and more unwieldy track, proves the band’s versatility once more.
