by Andreas Reissnauer (07/02) There is a good reason for the fact that only a very limited amount of medievil bands exist. Bands like In Extremo or Corvus Corax build their instruments themselves, carefully take care of them and combine their sound with heavy guitars and drums. This exhausting work seems to make a lot of musicians think twice to start a career in the medievil direction. After Morgenstern, Saltatio Mortis are the next to give it a try. Apart from bagpipes and such the boys use a lot of electronics such as guitars and keyboards. The vocals are extraordinarely high-pitched for this type of music but never sound unnatural. "Das zweite Gesicht" doesn't endanger the special position of In Extremo in any form but it offers a great alternative to the genre kings. (Andreas Reissnauer)
