by Jürgen Tschamler (18.12.2006) I'm sure some may think that Nightwish's Marco Hietala appears with a new band in order to earn some bucks aside - but it ain't that. Marco was the founding member of Tarot back in the early 80s, a time when they were still named Purgatory! Since then, Tarot have always been active - and especially their 2003 album, "Suffer our pleasures" has to be highlighted here. On their new album, they obviously concentrated on delivering a high-value successor to the mentioned album. "Crows fly black" is a potent Power Metal album showing no Nightwish influences. In fact, "Traitor", "Messenger of Gods" or "Bleeding dust" are finest, edgy Power Metal killers with powerful riff attacks and a singer who convinces not by highest tunes / vocal performances but rather by his aggressive, heavy voice! Solid heavy metal with a pumping foundation and an edgy attitude!
