by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (03.02.2009) After Deadborn, hereβs the next German top-notch technically complex Death Metal band hiring ex-Necrophagist musicians: axe man Christian Muenzner and drummer Hannes Grossmann were also active on "Epitaph". The only one left from the 2004 line-up on "Retribution" is Obscuraβs founder Steffen Kummerer (vocals/guitar). He digs early Death, and you could hear that already on the debut - check out "Lack of comprehension"... On the second album, which is far better regarding compositions and sound, intricate melodies rule, and your ears may catch a hint of Schuldinerβs guitar language on the opener "The anticosmic overload", for example. Jeroen Paul Thesseling - well-known from the once disputed, now loved Pestilence opus "Spheres" - adds tone colours with his fretless bass. Details such as non-distorted guitars ("Universe momentum"), subliminal choirs ("Infinite rotation"), or spheric voices ("Noospheres") and the sudden brutality of "Desolate spheres" are particular ear candies.
