11.Future in the past
by Ralf Koch (24.07.2009) Joe Satriani and his boys deliver a juicy surprise! The blokes have been hiding in the garage for a year - and now open the gates to present us with an overwhelming opus worthy of their supergroup status. The sound on this thing is mighty fat, and the participants on top of their game: bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen) and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others) have their mojos working, Satriani's soli are nothing less than excellent, and Sammy Hagar's voice tops it all off... Of course, that'll somehow remind you of Van Halen - so be it, who cares? This album features eleven Rock'n'Groove monsters, including only one half-ballad ("Learning to fall") and a lot of classy stuff - "Future is the past" just being the first coming to my mind. And, come on - haven't we all been waiting for a new Van Halen album for the last 14 years? Call it whatever you want - I call this a masterpiece!
