11.1917 (video clip)
by Oliver Kube (21.07.2008) Once in a while, you listen to a debut album the first time - and just know that it is something special. Kypck (pronounced: Koorsk) is a new Finnish band. In the Line Up, among others: ex-Sentenced axeman and main songwriter Sami Lopakka, and Hiili Hiilesmaa at the drums. The latter has gained worldwide recognition as a producer of megasellers: HIM, Lordi, Apocalyptica, Amorphis, and TerΓ€sbetoni. But the real ace up their sleeve is front man Erkki SeppΓ€nen (Dreamtale) - he sings all the songs in Russian and his charismatic voice really leaves its mark. The Russian language may seem exotic and bizarre at first sight, but makes sense in the dark and gloomy context. Tracks like the melodious epic "1917", the relentless "Stalingrad" or the wonderfully leaden sluggish "Ne prosti" are extremely atmospheric - so, "Cherno" reigns supreme in the Doom department.
