by Benedikt Niederschmid (10/00) Like so many acts, Downset have been a vistim of the short-living character of the "Crossover"-phenomenon. With "Anger" they landed a great hit in this movement, but despite the strong second album "Do we speak a dead language" disappeared from the screen and out of the people's heads. Now they're back impressively: "Check your people" goes on where its predecessor left off - biting raps and sawing guitars and a rocking drumkit in its middle. Nothing new, of course, one could think. Yes, but Downset are a band standing for musical a neat bit of work. That's why the guys around singer Rey Oropeza delivered a big hit with "Check your people". Played to the point, it's a well-produced cocktail of Metal and aggressive raps. Maybe a bit sentimental and out of time, but the fans will be delighted. They can't go wrong with this album, all the others probably will show little interest in the album.
