There are people who never change. Like, e.g. Staind frontman Aaron Lewis. A passionate wet blanket who despite 15 million sold albums, two children and a sweet home just cannot be happy. And who uses the dozen of songs of his fifth album again to let go his tears. Just because his fans are the best listeners, anyway and more important than the eternally grumbling music press. Who will again be wrinkling the forehead. Be it because "Chapter V" still clings to Nu Metal long declared death or because Aaron again appears with his systematic soul striptease. E.g. when he mentions in the opener, "Run away" his fear for a possible flop of the album or looks on his career as a surreal dream in "Trippy": "I can't believe I've come this far - now I stumble." Of course, he doesn't have to worry. Under supervision of Dave Bottrill (Tool, King Crimson), Staind sound more matured than ever and celebrate a thrilling change between acoustic and electric guitars and just write great songs. Call it Nu Metal or simply Rock - who cares? (Marcel Anders - July 2005)
