by Oliver Kube (15.05.2009) On their fourth album, front man Deron Miller, Bam's brother Jess Magera (Drums) and their crew have balanced their sound pretty exactly between Post Grunge and alternative Metal, pumping opening song "Hellions on parade" showing the direction. CKY are tough and aggressive, yet focussed on a coherent song structure: if necessary, the foot is taken off the accelerator and they'll present you with some anthemic breaks or smooth melodic parts (like on "The boardwalk body"). So, "Carver city" is always interesting and not and not too calculable, even you've heard it quite a few times. The lyrics are also pretty exciting, telling tales of past family trips to the Atlantic coast. Made up from those memories and horror tales about ghosts, mass murderes and monsters which were supposed to roam there, the band has created an imaginary little town. The songs tell stories about this idyllic holiday village where all these horribly things are bound to happen...
