by Jürgen Tschamler (05/02) To outdo an album like "Nuclear fire", the monstrous predecessor of "Black sun", is a difficult undertaking, if not impossible. But Primal Fear are not mistaking by trying to copy that album. "Black sun" is an album of the same quality level but is more variable without doing without the typical strengths of the band. After a short intro, the German Metal combo starts with the driving forward title track, and this one has immediately be called a hymn! The speedy banger, "Lightyears from home" presents razor sharp riffs and takes it all from the listener. "Fear" is a song, that couldn't have come better from Judas Priest in their absolute heydays - very powerful! The ultimate killer, "Mind machine" is even better! Killer! The atmospheric "Magic eye" loosens up the album, you will carry around this simple but effective melody for days. Cool. The 13 tracks are again very voluminous and perfectly produced, making them very powerful. Another Metal monster from Primal Fear, and at the end of the day they prove to be the better Judas Priest, even if that's not the nicest thing to say.
