11.Theme For A Young Lion
by Matthias Becker (03.02.2009) 10 years ago, Jonathan Cummins left The Doughboys and founded Bionic. Glen Robinson (The Ramones, Voivod) co-produced their debut, and the band went on tour with Nashville Pussy, Danko Jones, and Kiss. The second album "Deliverance" followed - and popularity, too, even far beyond Canada. And now they cook up a brutal mix of hefty 70s Rock with chunks of Punk and Psycho, hire The Cheerleaders, Peter Mika on piano, and Sophie Trudeau on violin - and sound like Led Zeppelin meet Foo Fighters. Energetic tracks with great titles Γ la "Soft as Margarine", "Learn to love the government", or "Theme for a young lion". The up-tempo quartet manages to balance alcohol drenched sound gems between Progressive Metal and Garage PunkβnβRoll, all wrapped up in classic Blues Rock structures. Black Blood is sonorous, booming, and makes wonderful noise - just like a Harley.
