Excellent Service

The Finns of Ancara bring with "Beyond the darek" their second longplayer. The quintet presents itself with mature and melodic songs, but also with loads of energy. The riff-rockers in the midtempo mostly have this classic 80s atmosphere.

by Anne-K. Fricke (04.03.2008) The stock of good Power Metal Bands in Finland seems to be inexhaustible. In their home country, Ancara have already caused a big stir. "Beyond the dark" is the second album of the quintet that presents itself with matured and melodic songs with a lot of energy. That is already shown in opener, "Circles", a great riff rocker in mid tempo regions with driving forward drum passages in which singer Sammy Salminen proves to be a classic Metal shouter. Of the same direction is the following "Deny" that may sound modern but also carries a lot of 80s spirit. Most of the songs are provided with great choirs, a driving forward rhythm section and some catchy guitar solos ("Scarred", "Cranium tension"), in which Juha Wahlsten and Samuel Hjelt show all their abilities. A true album highlight is "Just for me", a great power song with great vocals and a fine atmosphere. Beside nine studio songs you get one live recording ("Burn in hell") as well as two video clips. A great package!
