by Markus Eck (April 2004) After the killer debut album, "Liberation", the Norwegians again ignite a highly explosive collection of black metal into the fire of hate. "Beyond the apocalypse" is exactly the right title for this album: straight and extreme set to scene, Nordish Black metal as quick as lightning - with a foggy, icy breathe of true dark spirituality of the raw beginnings of this style. Hysterically, distorted, inhumanly misanthropic and endlessly fierce. Nevertheless, their performance is absolutely up to date, a very good, well worth listenable mix, refined by Satyricon-weapon, Frost, who again presents all his might on the sticks. All-destroying murder tracks, like "Chasing dragons", the dashing title song, "Beyond the apocalypse" or "Perished in pain" again make clear that 1349 are a true threat for many genre limits- especially in terms of destructive vehemence and deep black possession.
