"Berserker" CD by Amon Amarth
Article description
Amon Amarth release their eleventh album, 'Berserker'. The record contains twelve monstrous Heavy Metal anthems full of melodic hooklines, unrestrained ferocity, and ominously dramatic moments. 'Berserker' is the result of the band's enormous creativity and their collective desire to continue their uncompromising journey together. From the disarming melodrama and explosive riffs of the album opener, 'Fafner's Gold', to the bestial simplicity of the raging 'Crack The Sky', to the epic rage of 'Raven's Flight' and the grim storytelling of 'Ironside' and 'Skoll and Hati', 'Berserker' is an album with songs showcasing the band's trademark bite. Every aspect of the band's sound has been refined, sonically improved, and comes across much more powerful - both in terms of musical might and emotional strength.
The spirit of the exciting new songs is encapsulated in the nearly titled track, 'The Berserker at Stamford Bridge': it tells the story of the last Viking battle against the English army in 1066, and specifically focuses on the incredible feats of an axe-wielding warrior.
The recordings for 'Berserker' took place in Los Angeles under the guidance of renowned studio guru Jay Ruston (Anthrax/Stone Sour/Steel Panther). After several sessions, during which demos were already recorded under professional conditions (originally with Swedish metal legend Peter TΓ€gtgren, later with Ruston himself), the band crossed the Atlantic to complete the final recordings in L.A., with the aim of injecting new, fresh ideas into the conventional album process.
