by Oliver Kube (03.02.2009) Jeff Scott Soto is one of he busiest Rock vocalists of the last two decades: he has already been the voice of Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force, Axel Rudi Pell, Talisman, Eyes, Takara, and projects like the Neal Schon collaboration thing Soul Sirkus, or the "Rock star" soundtrack, and as interim fronter of AOR giants Journey, to mention a few... Amazing: the New Yorker (born in 1965) constantly delivers brilliant performances - and switches from Heavy Metal, Mainstream Rock, and Pop without any problems. Of course, this has also been a strongpoint on his solo stuff, too - and his fourth studio release doesn’t break with that tradition. "Cry me a river", a great, Soul-influenced track, "Bring it home", done à la Prince, or funky and danceable "Mountain" mix well with meaty AOR compositions ("Our song"), calm Pop stuff à la "Gin and tonic sky", or atmospheric ballads infused with Country and R&B. What a voice... What a musician!
