by Markus Eck (04.07.2007) The Medieval rockers Saltatio Mortis, didn't let themselves be disturbed by the many line-up changes and simply reformed. So, on the new album, they are eight, and on "Aus der Asche" they document another progression. All their stylistic experiments belong to the past now, the new release is as purist as homogenous. Besides plenty of demanding, hit-melodic electric guitar lines, the indestructibles incorporate some aesthetic pipe-arrangements resulting in unmistakable, pleasant Medieval feelings, further enhanced by instruments like shawm, flute, hurdy-gurdy, bousouki, zister, and all sorts of percussions. Beside the variable song structures, Saltatio Mortis especially convince by their thoughtful and absolutely thrilling, lyrical finesses - provided with dynamic male vocals.
