by Sonja Angerer (April 2004) After more than three years of creative break, Atrocity return with an opulent concept album: "Atlantis" of course dealing with the ancient culture of this legendary place. Myth or part of a tradition of older, god-like creatures? With the return of guitarist Thorsten Bauer, the Black/ Gothic Metal became more important again in the variability of the band. Consequently, I have the impression that they don't sing about the golden days but about the apocalypse: extremely heavy riffs, double-bass blasts, rough vocals. Of course, wide, atmospheric keyboard-scapes aren't missing, neither are "ethno-like" intros and bombastic links. It seems a bit as if Atrocity took elements of their long history and melt it for a new album. A big multi-media part with lots of information for the "Atlantis" theme rounds off this adventure. I am curious how the stage adaptation will look like! (Sonja Angerer - April 2004)
