Less is more: Jason C. Miller & co have abandoned technical gadgetry, and as a result, these one-time protegΓ©s of Marilyn Manson are not only more elegant but also more effective.

by Oliver Kube (29.01.2009) The seventh studio opus of the former Marilyn Manson protegΓ©s is really intoxicating. During the production of "Unplugged" (unfortunately, this album was only available as download), and/or the acoustic tour with Korn fronter Jonathan Davies, Jason C. Miller & Co. obviously started to like their arrangements less complex and less effect-laden... Mind you, "At the edge of the world" is not smooth, simple and shallow, though. Now, the songs by the new Godhead (more Rock!) are not longer dependant on technical shenanigans of all kinds. The Washington boys can use the technical stuffs as a means of style, instead of needing them to smooth out some compositorial deficits. Epitomes of that: the luscious epic opener "The puppet", "Stay back", a real anthem with mystical atmosphere and a great bass line, plus "Closing the door" which may sound too simple for seasoned fans at first, but if you give it some time, it’ll develop and become very intense.
