Excellent Service

The (neo) classically-inspired French Power Metal band honor their name only occasionally, as they definitely do not limit themselves to "adagio" but offer a multitude of tempos. In any case, this is their hardest album so far.

by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.01.2009) The French Power Metal band has exchanged vocalists almost as often as Iced Earth or Annihilator in their careers - and have picked up considerably more toughness on that way. The remarkably gory cover artwork is another token of that process. New Finnish singer Chris Palin with his gravelly voice reminds me of Russel Alan. The neo classical lead guitars and the piano lines ("The astralpathway") and the overall, but not overdone pomp go very well with that voice. The general impression is a bit more melancholic than Symphony X, for example, and not as elegant as the US/Norwegian combo Kamelot. The shrieking vocals featured, among others, on "Undead" are a bit weird, but nevertheless fit into the context lyricwise - and normal for an Adagio album. Axe man Stephan Forte strutted his stuff on this production - for their next release, a top-notch sound guru should further improve the sound, so that it’s even tighter and has a bit more clout.
