by Markus Wosgien (null) 17 years spans the history of Obituary meanwhile, and they have formed the Death Metal genre with their own style and still possess soe kind of supremacy. "Anthology" is a worthy "Best of"-compilation of their five studio-records so far. They accumulated quite a pile of classics, consequently the tracklist reads like a fairy tale: "Find the arise" (here as a demo-version), "Chopped in half", "Final thoughts", "Don't care", "Intoxicated", etc. Obituary have always stuck to their roots: powerful Death Metal that won't let you sit still. Not least to the expressive vocals of John Tardy, who did his share to give Obituary their uniqueness. The two rhythms-guitarists, Trevor Peres and Alan West, as well as bassist Frank Watkins and drummer Donald Tardy laid the right foundation with their incomparable groove and impressive dynamics. "Anthology" includes twenty songs out of the whole career of this Florida-based combo, added by "Buried alive" (a Venom-cover) and "Boiling point" (a remix from the "World demise"-phase), two previously unreleased tracks. Obituary are a Death Metal legend, and that is what this album proves.
