by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (10.07.2008) Falconer have their own trademark style within that Nordic traditional Metal genre – even the speedy opener "Field of sorrow" sounds like an old acquaintance. "Man of the hour" clearly falls back on Swedish Folklore motifs, and the title "A beggar hero" expresses the basic subject of the album: poverty and life in the middle ages. Reminding you of Blind Guardian’s "The bard’s song", this duet of Mathias Blad’s velvety voice with a songstress completely abandons Metal elements in favour of minnesang. "Vargaskall" is one of several songs sang in Swedish, the sound of its dramatic intro sounding a bit like Viking Metal – pioneers Mithotyn – the former band of axeman and main song writer Stefan Weinerhall. These beautiful gems show the spectrum of Falconer’s sixth album – the digipak also contains two bonus tracks: "Dark ages", a Rock song, and the traditional emigrant melody: "Vi sålde våra hemman".
