by Markus Eck (29.09.2006) Playful melodic Pagan Viking Black Metal from Germany, from the little city of KΓΆthen in Sachsen-Anhalt, to be exact. With "Ahnenthron", the musically very determined band delivers a solid album. The numerous heathen melodies appear very well considered - neither on nursery rhyme level nor too progressive or too bulky. A simply "Intro" named, really great acoustic introduction is followed by the sometimes swinging, predominantly straight forward rocking opener "Die Drachen und der Runenstein". Over the further course of the album, Thrudvangar skilfully play with unexpected breaks providing a lot of variation on this very epic debut album. Trademark of the band is the support of the warlike riff cascades with symphonic keyboards guaranteeing some heroic, graceful atmospheres.
