Excellent Service

A gray, moody, and dense late autumn day dominates the scene. The sky has darkened much too early. Now rain falls evenly and regularly on the streets, on the earth, on the grumpy-looking people. This is the atmosphere in which Subsignal's sixth studio album, 'A Poetry of Rain,' was created.

Five seemingly endless years made Subsignal fans wait for new acoustic sound adventures. 'And this, too, had to do with the pandemic,' Markus Steffen reveals the reason for the painfully long break. 'Existential fears crept in,' he reflects. 'In the course of this, longtime bassist Ralf Schwager left the band. However, worthy replacement Martijn Horsten from Rotterdam was quickly found. Nevertheless, the ten compositions indulge in longing and a considerable amount of melancholy.'

The progressive mix of rock, metal, and art rock seems to come effortlessly. Exceptional drummer Dirk Brand provides a spectacular foundation, on which both rocking and elegant guitar sounds, together with the keyboards, create unique soundscapes. Above it all floats the wonderful timbre of vocalist Arno Menses - always present, always captivating, full of passion and power. The crystal clear and powerful production by Yogi Lang from their label, Gentle Art Of Music, also contributes to this.
