by Matthias Mader (20.04.2009) Many current Emocore acts walk on the thin line between genius and madness, many of them really losing track of their wild bunch of tempi, breaks, fills and temper tantrums... Vanna, hailing from beautiful Boston, luckily do not belong to those bands. Ok, the twelve songs on their third album "A new hope" are as intricate as usual in the genre (including the obligatory change from melodious vocals to screams), but they still have a red thread as far as songwriting is concerned. A special beat, a riff, a melody - tracks like "Let’s have an earthquake", "The same graceful wind", or "Into hell’s mouth we march" never go overboard or threaten to become some kind of Free Jazz improvisation - in contrast to the material of some of the newer Screamocore posse. You should be open-minded, though, that won't do any harm. Responsible for the killer sound: Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, Our Last Night).
