13.A Song For Hilmer
by Ralf Koch (20.04.2009) Just in time for their 20th anniversary: working on their last album "End of infinity" (1993), the band broke up - now, keyboardist and founding member Ferdy Doernberg has recruited a new line-up, and they're back. The band may have experienced many phases, but these 13 new songs seem to be the essence of it. You can take it from the band name: the Germans combine rough Teutonic Metal with melodious, smooth and gentle moments filled with symphonic keyboards, acoustical guitars, or even epic parts which kind of interrupt the Metal flow - before rough and fast double bass drum attacks kick the song back on track. This breaks are fascinating and unique - and Rough Silk's trademark. Doernberg is supported by a solid and versatile rhythmic department consisting of André Hort (bass) and Alex Wenn (drums), and axe man Mike Mandel can also strut his stuff.
