by Andreas Reissnauer (21.07.2008) Poisonblack, the Goth Metal band from Finland, have just released their third album. And you can write Metal with a capital M here - Poisonblack’s style is far from those kitschy, electronic or poppy sounds many of their fellow Goth outfits use. Instead, they focus on the power of the riff, catchy melodies and the charm of exceptional singer Ville Laihiala. Without a doubt, "A dead heavy day" is the most convincing output of the Finns so far: you’ll notice their versatility and compositorial capability immediately - regardless of which song you’ve started to play. These boys just know how to come up with a catchy tune! Compared with its predecessor "Lust stained despair", it’s striking that Poisonblack are leaning more to the rough and tough side - which suits them well. Don’t compare Poisonblack to Sentenced - that’s is unjustified. Just enjoy this great band and their fantastic album!
