Once again Incubus together with producer Brendon O'Brien compiled a good hour of music for "A crow left of the murder". In 2003, their modern Alternative Rock/Metal dared to access progressive and Art Rock fields consciously distancing itself from Nu Metal.

by Julius Müller (01/04) When you are at the top you can just let it flow. Incubus are sitting at the top. Their last album "Morning View" was the big hit, the breakthrough and the evergreen at the same time. Now the album after. Or: how do I re-invent myself? That's easy: get out of the mainstream get into experimenting, into edgy directness, the dirt of noisy tones. There are minute-long, squeaking solos, uncompromising rocking and some slight electronics, around-the-corner arrangements and unconventional wit. The sound reminds me of the dry sovereignity of "Californication", the richness in facets of Faith No More's "King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime" and this cool nonchalance. To just do what they think is right and not to plan anything has a lot of the late albums of Pearl Jam. So "A Crow Left To The Murder" becomes what the abstract title promised it to be: an abstract, often surreal distorted pictured of a successful but still steadily progressive band.
