Mercyful Fate dissolved before the end of this millennium after release of "9" which is a pity with respect to the consolidated line-up and the high quality of the material. On the other hand, the portfolio of the Danish band consists of nothing but real Metal classics.

by Michi (04/99) After the third listen-through I am sure that "9" is one of the best Mercyful Fate albums since the re-union 6 years ago. A whole lot more catchy and melodic as "Dead again". Therefore, it strongly reminds me of works like "Melissa" and "Don't break the oath". A fact which Mercyful Fate fans will appreciate to hear. No matter if you refer to "Last rites", "Church of Saint Anne" or "Burn in hell" the band's song writing skills are first quality. Some more personal tips are the very complex "Kiss the demon" and the dark title track "9". (Michi)
