16.Six Times Dead (16.6) (Videoclip) (Data Track)
by Jürgen Tschamler (15.05.2009) Primal Fear have recorded their new album "16.6-Before the devil knows you`re dead" - the current line-up is the best they have ever had so far. Not everyone liked their rough'n'tough Power Metal outputs - and the band has acknowledged it: their last opus "New religion" was already a bit calmer, more melodious and multi-faceted. The combo also walks that way on "16.6-Before the devil knows you`re dead". Ralf Scheepers' vocals do vary a lot - in contrast to the older material on which he constantly sang very high. The songs, although very heavy, are focussed on the melodies. "Black rain", sounding slightly oriental, shows an unusual and intriguing new side of Primal Fear. "Soar", however, is a brutal pitbull of a track. "The exorcist" reminds me very much of Judas Priest, and "Kill bound" will satisfy any given True Metal fan. The album is very versatile and very keen not to be too much Power Metal at all.
