by Patrick Schmidt (null) This band just gets better and better! Already the previous album "Till fjälls" by the Swedish Vintersorg (some members are also part of Otyg) totally convinced me. "Ödemarkens son" is the logical follow-up of "Till fjälls" and offers an extremely good mix of Folk and Black Metal, sometimes expanded through partly progressively sounding passages, for more than 40 minutes. The band succeeds in creating a breathtaking atmosphere that includes unique melodies and clear vocals, one needs to get used to in the beginning. These get accompanied by many acoustic intermezzos and attractive, female vocals, which improve the entire concept. It's not worth to stand out single songs, because its effect should be pathbreaking as one whole piece. Next to Storm, who created a similarly brilliant album ("Nordavind"), Vintersorg are the only true Folk/Black Metal band. Congratulations!
