If you translate the ancient Indian word "Anakin" into German, you get "warrior".

Impulsive & talented: Young Darth Vader

The Star Wars saga tells much of Darth Vader's life. Anakin Skywalker was born into a slave family and had to struggle through life with his mother. It was thanks to a coincidence - a defective spaceship - that two Jedi came to the planet.

True Vader fans know that this encounter is more than fateful in several respects.

His years as a slave at a scrap metal dealer were formative, where the speed-loving boy discovered his passion for racing and the associated tinkering with such speed vehicles. One particular characteristic will determine his fate in the course of the saga, for Anakin is very impulsive.

Fun Fact 1: Eight times Vader please

Did you know that there have been eight people who have played Darth Vader? Through the ages, Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensen, David Prowse, Bob Anderson, Sebastian Shwar, Spencer Wilding, Ben Burtts and James Earl Jones have all managed to portray the Dark Lord.

Fun Fact 2: Announcement of paternity

"Luke, I am your father." is probably the most famous quote from Star Wars. However, it didn't actually happen that way in the original script. Actually, Vader was supposed to say "Obi-Wan killed your father". Lucas had the whole thing changed in post-production. This was as much of a surprise to many of the actors - except for those involved in the scene - as it was to the fans in the cinema.

Fun Fact 3: Darth Vader was a supporting role

For the fact that George Lucas actually wanted to kill off the dark Sith Lord after "A New Hope", the character got quite a few more appearances. Why? Because Lucas only realised the character's full potential after this Star Wars part.

Fun Fact 4: The end of the saga should have been called something else

The plan was to name the end of the Star Wars saga "Revenge of the Jedi". Flyers and posters were already printed for this. George Lucas then thought about the name again and came to the conclusion that the Jedi would not take revenge. So the title was changed to "Return of the Jedi Knights".
