Alice's story and how it all began

"Alice in Wonderland" is the title of a children's book by Lewis Carroll, published in 1865. It’s best known by its film adaptation. Alice, the main character, goes to a garden tea party with her mother. In fact, it's her own engagement party. Just as redheaded Hamish is about to take Alice's hand, she spots a white rabbit. A talking rabbit - gazing intensely at a watch.

Alice understands what the rabbit is trying to tell her: "I'm late!" She decides to leave her engagement party and follows the rabbit to its hole. Suddenly, though, she loses her grip and falls into it, finding herself in a room with a door on each side. Searching to find a way to fit through the smallest one, she drinks a potion which makes her shrink in size. In all the excitement, she leaves the key on the table, which now appears much too big. After drinking another potion to grow and then shrink once more, she finally finds a way out of the room. She thrusts the key into the lock and makes it to Wonderland!
